I seem to be the bearer of bad weather 😦 Ever since my journey across the pond it seems like I’ve barely seen the sun and the temps haven’t gotten above 60. Boooo I’m dying for summer weather! Ah well. When I’m complaining about the heat and humidity in a month or two, someone kindly remind me of this post please.
Today had its share of adventures, despite the thunder clouds. My mom and brother both had hair appointments in town (If you’re ever in need of a haircut in Rome or Naples, look up Noi salons. Pretty pricey BUT Massimo does the princess of Italy’s hair. So obviously it’s worth it) so I tagged along to take in the sights. The trains here had me missing the neat and dependable Germany trains, but Germany doesn’t offer scenery like this either!
Don’t be fooled by the pretty sky. It was cold and rained 45 minutes later!
After they got (more) beautiful, we walked around a bit and looked at some lovely shops before stopping into a restaurant Massimo recommended for a quick lunch. I’m in love with eggplant and so I got my old standby: Pasta Siciliana. It doesn’t hurt that I was born in Sicily, either 😉
Yummy yummy in my tummy!
I ate almost all of the pasta, which left me a little too full, so I was grateful for our scenic walk back to the train station. We planned on window shopping along the way back, but alas, it started to rain so we hustled along with everybody else. The rain, wind, and cold made for perfect reading/baking ambiance, so that’s exactly what I did! I only have about 100 pages left in American Gods and it’s gettin’ intense! I also started making these Classic Cinnamon Rolls I saw on the cover of the May issue of Food Network Magazine
Don’t they look yummy?? I thought they’d make a great Saturday morning treat.
A question for you: Do you make a special treat for weekend mornings?
Blaine has booked his tickets to come visit me! Hooraaay! The countdown to June 24th has begun!! It’s def time to get back to this
First date. He fell for the girl in the cat lady costume 😉
I can. not. wait!!
After getting that exciting news, there was obviously no way I could curl up and read today, so mom and I headed out for a mini adventure in Naples. We just parked down by Lungomare and walked around, taking in the beautiful sights and sounds.
We took a stroll through the gardens since I lurve them so much.
There is the Mediterranean Sea!
We grabbed some gelato and sat down to take in the view. Aaah relaxing 🙂
It was great weather for a little walk around town and it got me pumped to start planning Blaine’s itinerary!!
The hardest part about wanting to blog every day is feeling like I’m writing something that will actually contribute to people’s lives. Today…not so much. Most of today was spent takin’ care of biznass which makes for pretty boring writing. We drove to base to run our errands and the incentive in that is this delicious sandwich!
You make your own sandwich, kind of like Subway, but it ends up costing less than 2 bucks. Score!
Yummm. I also managed to squeeze in a workout at home today, once again drawing inspiration from Julie’s circuit workout page. I took her Jump Rope ‘n’ Abs workout and adjusted for the equipment I had to make it look something like this:
And that’s all my Wednesday turned out to be!
Turns out baking banana bread isn’t exactly a catalyst for action. While I was waiting the hour for it to bake, I started reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman
I finished Outlander in Germany and while I enjoyed the story, I was looking for something a little more…literary than a tale of love that involved time travel and men in kilts after I finished. I’m only about 100 pages into American Gods, but it is gooooood. I’m hooked! Which explains why it was a lazy afternoon until Mom was ready to head to base and I got a nice workout in at the gym. I did this 50 minute elliptical workout from Peanut Butter Fingers
We also went to the library and picked up some more books. My favorite part about summer is all the free time to spend reading in the sun!
A question for you: What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
I have a feeling American Gods is going to win that spot for me!
It seems like the adventures in Germany really took a toll! I woke up shortly before 10 o’clock and got my butt movin’. I hate waking up this late because it always throws off my eating schedule 😛 To make up for the awkward late-breakfast/early-lunch predicament, I decided I’d snack on some cereal while making banana bread! Here’s the recipe:
1/2 c. butter or shortening (we use veggie oil)
1 c. sugar (when we’re feeling fancy we do 1/2 brown 1/2 white)
Cream these together, then add:
2 beaten eggs
2 c. flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 mashed bananas
dash of salt
optional: cinnamon and nutmeg, chocolate chips, nuts
Bake in a Teflon loaf pan or a pan that’s been cooking spray-ed at 350 for 60 minutes.
Back in the land of beautiful bakeware
I hope you guys love it as much as I do!
