I’m falling behind on my daily posts! I’ve been feeling pretty under the weather these past couple of days, so I’m sorry for the lack of posts. Here’s a little picture recap of what we’ve been doing.
We bought the new version of The Game of Life. I like the older version better, but it’s still fun!
Mom and I went to the market and bought all of these veggies for 1 euro, plus 4 peaches for 50 cents. Can’t beat those prices, and everything is so fresh! These guys were roasted up with olive oil and Italian spices as a side dish one night.
I hope we ate these before ‘End of Dluo’. Whatever that means…
We took a tour of the Bourbon Tunnels. Really, really interesting, the tour company offers three different experiences: the basic walk-through tour, an adventure tour complete with rafting down a part of the aqueduct and zip lining, and a ‘spelunking’ adventure where you are given hard hats, flashlights, and a suit and you can crawl through some of the narrowest parts of the aqueduct. We only did the basic, but I reaally want to go back and try the adventure tour.
That, ladies and gents, is a Reese’s ice cream sandwich. Soooo good, especially when you hit a chunk of peanut butter. love it.
And that pretty much catches us up! For the rest of the day I plan on being parked on the couch with a box of Kleenex next to me, trying to watch America’s Next Top Model. Jealous?
The United States could learn a very important lesson from Italian malls: dogs make great shoppers! Me, Mom, Quin, and a friend went to the mall today and my shopping experience was seriously enhanced by so many furry shoppers. Apparently it’s no problem to take them in the building, and we even saw some off-leash. C-c-crazy!
Mom and I were ready for a workout yesterday so we headed to the gym to take the 8:30 spinning class followed by the 9:30 ab class. My legs were still feeling my workout from Sunday and the spinning class did nothing to ease the pain! It was really fun though and I enjoyed the music a lot more this time compared to the last class we took. Even though I picked a bike near the fan, I was still drenched by the end of the hour.
ready for our workouts!
I only have one complaint about that class: I felt like my bike neighbor kept watching me spin. I could just be paranoid, but I reaally don’t enjoy it when I feel that a fellow gym member is comparing my performance to theirs. I usually try to ignore it, but with all the mirrors in the spinning room there was pretty much no where to look without realizing she was watching me. Staring back seemed to nip it in the bud though 😛
How do you handle uncomfortable situations at the gym?
The class ended just before 9:30 and we quickly cleaned off our bikes before heading to our next class. When we walked in, the instructor was telling everyone to “go get steps” and mom and I realized this miiight not be an ab class. Turns out, it was like a step aerobic/full body workout class. It was a lot of fun, but we did squats on the steps and lots of glute exercises and my tush and legs were screaming by the end. The instructor was really fun, though, and we had a lot of helpful classmates who assisted us when we got confused 🙂
We came home and pretty much took it easy, although I did crank out a batch of peanut butter oatmeal cookies! I didn’t realize how many it made (6 dozen!) so we have cookies for days. The fam gives them a 6 so they aren’t amazing, but they’re pretty good.
and I think it’s a really great way to look at things! Buut I’m struggling with that right now. Before you call me a spoiled brat for living in Italy and being bored, sometimes I just want to catch a movie with friends or ride my bike around the neighborhood. Seeing that the majority of my friends live on a separate continent and I’m scared to drive here, not to mention ride a bike on the street, I’ve been scrambling for new ways to keep myself entertained. Today I decided to start Jess’s Summer Shape Up plan and I’m sooo glad I did.
The workouts are laid out very clearly with video examples and it gives me a solid goal to work towards, which is something I thrive off of. And the “hard core” workout was killer! I love being challenged in new ways. Hopefully this will help stave off the boredom until our next big adventure!
What are some of your favorite boredom busters? I’m working on a cross stitch piece right now, but needlework requires a certain amount of calm that is hard to come by sometimes!
Man oh man have these past 2 weeks been busy! With a guest in the house we really tried to make an effort to show off our beautiful city of Naples, so it has been a pretty constant go-go-go around here.
Yesterday we concluded Blaine’s whirlwind tour with a trip to Sorrento so he could finish up his shopping and it was a beautiful day for it.
My mom brought a friend so we all just strolled around town and enjoyed the beautiful weather. I bought myself a cute little red purse that I am very excited about so it was a successful day for me as well! The train ride from Naples to Sorrento takes a little over 2 hours and when we made it home at 5 o’clock Blaine and I were wiped. Shopping takes it out of ya! We spent the rest of the evening getting Blaine ready for his flight this morning.
His flight home left out of Rome which meant waking up at 5 a.m this morning. That was painful. When I get back to school I plan to be an early morning exerciser and I know it’s going to take me a while to get into that groove! Our drive to Rome was uneventful and it was sad to see Blaine go, but hopefully we’ll be seeing each other soon 🙂
Unfortunately, I think all this movin’ and groovin’ is starting to get me sick! I woke up with a bit of a sore throat and the sniffles, so I’m planning on treating myself to a long weekend of relaxation 🙂 Hooray for self pampering!
A question for you: What’s your favorite way to pamper yourself? I usually like to go to the beach and read magazines, but because of my current location I think I’ll be sitting in the garden reading magazines this weekend. I have two issues of Vogue I haven’t read yet!
